Juan Wauters was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and has been living in Jackson Heights since 2002.
For five years he performed with “The Beets” and released three albums. During this time he was influenced by a large New York City music community. After the group dissolved, Juan struck out on his own, releasing his first solo album (N.A.P.) in 2014. The following year he released his second album, “Who Me?”, forging his own creative identity. After promoting these albums, Juan questioned how he could make a living through his music and still have a rewarding life. It was a time to rethink and evaluate his art and career.

Since 2016 Juan has covered a lot of ground both physically and artistically. He performed in his homeland for the first time, directed the movie “Romane” in southwest France and traveled extensively in Latin America. In June 2017, he went to Mexico City to write music. Up to this point, most of Juan’s recording had been in English but that all changed when he revisited his Latin roots. He always wanted to write an album while traveling as both time and place have a unique influence on music. While in Mexico he was offered a role in a movie in Argentina so he packed his hundred pound studio in two suitcases and went. After filming the movie, he recorded songs in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Mexico and Puerto Rico. At every stop Juan sought out artistic collaboration – especially with musicians who had different traditions and energies specific to region.

Though recorded entirely in Spanish, Juan’s music still retains a New York style. The first of a trilogy, this special album “La Onda de Juan Pablo”, reflects the best of all cultures and influences.
